Bio : Claudia has taught composition and literatureat the college level for the past ten years.In addition, she tutors all levels of English and conductsSAT, ACT,AP, and TOEFL preparation. In all her student interactions, Claudia seeks to inspire a love of learning and a passion for excellence. She is deeply committed to helping students succeed and continually endeavors to refine her teaching and tutoring so that she can offer an unparalleled learning experience. Claudia holds a B.A. in English from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.A. in English from the University of California, Irvine.

SAT Prep: Literature Subject Test
A comprehensive preparation for the multiple-choice exam. Emphasis on reading and interpreting literary texts from a variety of historical periods and genres. Instruction on basic literary terminology and the following literary concepts: meaning and theme; form, structure, and organization;figurative language; meaning of words in context;narrative voice; and characterization.
ACT Prep: English
A comprehensive preparation for the English test, the Reading test, and the Writing test of the ACT exam. Emphasis on reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, usage, diction, andwritten analysis and evaluation of broad social issues.Specific test-taking strategies tailored to the needs of individual students.
AP Prep: Language and Composition

The Mechanics of Writing
A concentrated course that covers all aspects of grammar, usage, and punctuation, including spelling, capitalization, numbers, pronoun use, parallel structure, subject/verb agreement, pronoun/antecedent agreement, misplaced modifiers, verb tense, word choice, diction, syntax, and sentence structure.For all ages.

A college-preparatory course aimed at improving all aspects of essay writing, includinggrammar and punctuation, word choice and sentence structure,essay structure, paragraph formation, research techniques, and MLA style.Emphasis on critical evaluation and analysis of non-fiction texts. Critical Thinking Through Literature
An honors-level course that teaches students to apply critical thinking in reading, analyzing, and writing about the four main genres of literature: the short story, the novel, the poem, the play. For advanced high school students.
